Did Nick actually compare this new work to what they did with Ummagumma? Oh No! Give me the live stuff, and maybe Gilmours Narrow Way… but otherwise, no! I know, I know… Im sounding like a stuck up Floyd fan, but I cant help but cringe when I heard that. With that said, Im a hypocrite as well… cause you know that I’ll still buy everything they come out with. So yes, if there ever will be a Immersion box set of Ummagumma, Ill be there at the front of the line buying two copies! LOL!
Ah! Ummagumma, the album with three covers.
I know that you are aware of that, but I’m not all that sure many people have seen that particular cover for the Australian release of that album.
The question in point is the ‘red herring’, the strategically placed album for ‘Gigi’.
The UK release had the Gigi album cover in plain view. In the U.S. probably due to a question of copyright, the Gigi album cover was just airbrushed white so you could still see that there was an album which had once been there.
However, for the Australian release, the whole album was completely airbrushed out, so there showed no trace of anything, just the same colour of the surrounding wall. The same was done for all the images also in the wall painting.
So, Google Ummgumma and then look at the images. Every image there shows only the original UK and US album covers and not one of them shows the Australian cover.
I do have a link to an image of the cover of my own album, the Australian release, as I live here in Australia, where I originally purchased that album. I could only upload the image to my home site, so that’s the only place I could place the image so I could link to it here, so I hope you don’t mind my doing that.
